The lull before the storm

I admit it’s very tempting to start your own business. I should know; I’ve gone through it. Problem was there was no one to guide me through the initial stages and admittedly, not knowing anything about www.interoffice.co.uk, did cause some heartache. This is what prompted me to write about some basic steps to consider if you are on the verge of starting out on your own.
There an umpteen hidden costs that eventually add up to a tidy sum, thereby putting a drain on your resources. Forget becoming a financial whiz overnight, you need to turn into an administrator, a Manager, the Admin team, the investor and the best in Marketing and Sales. And guess what, you can’t wait till the stroke of midnight to become any or all of these.
There are some simple factors, which, if you consider and sort out, will go a long way in getting your business off to a good start. The foremost is the mission of your business; why start it in the first place? Do you see a specific niche, market or need to establish this? You need to, as it will form the basis for all growth.
The next thing to consider is the goal of your business. Once you define a goal, it becomes so much easier to work towards it. It gives you direction and focus.
Then, consider the fact that you need to have a strategy that will help you achieve these goals. It could be one or several. But the point is without a proper strategy, you could end up going in circles. Remember, time lost equates money lost equates death of business.
You then need to know the target audience you are focusing on. It can’t be everyone; it has to be a specific group that you are targeting.
Finally the million dollar question – what does your target group want from your business? If your business is not in sync with their needs, all the above, along with your business, will just be thunder in the distance.
